Location analytics, which integrates geographic, demographic, socio-economic data and other information, had been increasingly used to help governments, businesses, and individuals understand different planning problems and make decisions. There are many models and methods that support location analytics in commercial GIS software. However, there has been little critical evaluation of approaches, and even less assessment of observed performance and behavior in practice. This paper seeks to establish a framework for evaluation as well as exploration in how associated models/methods perform in practice. A range of planning problems are considered, with comparison made to exact approaches.
