Step-pools Morphological Characteristics and Genetic Analysis of Rill in the Yuanmou Dry-hot Valley

Rill erosion is the first stage in the complete sequence of gully erosion. The appearance of the SPRs is the necessary condition for the development of the rill; it is also one of the mechanisms that change rill to an ephemeral gully. In this study, we obtained the feature and size parameters of per step-pools in rill (SPRs) in field, and observation and record carefully the development environment of SPRs. Then we research and analysis the relationship of the SPRs parameters, morphological characteristics, control factors in office. From this study, we draw the conclusion as follows: (1) In the process of SPRs development, the relationship between the depth change of plunge-pool and the gradient and length of step wall is very closely. The plunge-pool width is closely related to channel lateral erosion. However, the plungepool width is not systematically affected by the step gradient. The length of the plungepool is affected by the soil properties and height of the step wall. (2) The formation of the SPRs is the coupling effects of a single factor or many factors such as terrain conditions, vegetation, confluence area, soil properties, boundary conditions and so on. And the shape and scale of the SPRs is changes obviously with the difference of the main control factors.
