Chinese Antarctic Center of Surveying and Mapping, Wuhan University, Wuhan, China Compared to common data presentation methodologies such as tables and diagrams, thematic maps have the advantages of presenting complex spatial data of multiple dimensions in a direct way. In this study, over 500 thematic maps are used to presenting the data of pesticide residue inspection on agri-products in the markets during 2013. The data from 46 Chinese cities contains the information of agri-products, pesticides, sampling spots, maximum residue limits and inspection data. Different calculating strategies are used to transform the original data into highly integrated data for cartography on the base of demand investigation. In the map designing process, the symbols of some cartographic data need to be standardized design in case of rigor and consistency. Two of the maps are taken as examples to explain the whole process of data processing and map design. The process can be used on all maps in this study and more complex data.
