The advancement of women through the ranks of the professoriate in our discipline continues to be a challenge, with many women “leaking” out of the pipeline for a variety of reasons. One challenge facing many young professors is merging parenthood while also advancing to Full Professor. Advice to "have it all" can cause excessive pressure and anxiety and the mantra to seek "work-life balance" approaches the challenge as a zero-sum game. A panel of female academics share in a frank discussion of the strategies, choices, and compounding factors that they have worked through to get there while remaining sane and enjoying all of life.
