This panel will discuss the possibility of establishing a multi-disciplinary, online academic journal whose articles would appear in the form of story maps. The goal is to gauge the degree of interest in establishing this journal, and to generate ideas and feedback on how the journal should be organized and managed. Story maps are rapidly increasing in popularity in the scholarly realm. They offer multiple advantages, including incorporation of dynamic maps and a rich mix of multimedia content. The journal would serve multiple disciplines, including geography and the digital humanities. The journal would have an editorial board with representatives from a variety of universities and disciplines. Submitted story maps would be peer-reviewed prior to publication. The goal of this session is to have an open discussion with participants about the pros and cons, opportunities and challenges, of launching and maintaining the proposed journal. Please come with your creative ideas.
