CyberGIS is an interdisciplinary field combining advanced cyberinfrastructure, geographic information science and systems (GIS), spatial analysis and modeling, and a number of geospatial domains to improve research productivity and enable scientific breakthroughs. It has emerged as a new-generation GIS that enables synergistic advances in data-driven knowledge discovery, visualization and visual analytics, and collaborative problem solving and decision making. Though spatial big data have played important roles in many domains with significant societal impacts, spatial data science remains to be established for advancing data-driven geographic research and education in the era of cyberGIS.
As part of the AAG 2018 Symposium on CyberGIS and Spatial Data Science, this session aims to capture the latest research efforts on geographic knowledge discovery enabled by cyberGIS and spatial data science. Topics include but are not limited to methods in spatial data science that lead to new geographic knowledge discoveries, applications of cyberGIS in various domains such as emergency response, precision agriculture, human dynamics, and public health, and challenges and opportunities brought by the coupling of cyberGIS with spatial data science.
