CyberGIS – geographic information science and systems (GIS) based on advanced computing and cyberinfrastructure – represents new-generation GIS in the era of big data, and has emerged during the past several years as a vibrant interdisciplinary field. Though spatial big data have played important roles in many domains with significant societal impacts, spatial data science remains to be established for advancing data-driven geographic research and education in the era of cyberGIS. At AAG 2018 annual meeting, the Symposium on CyberGIS and Spatial Data Science will be held by building on the successes of previous CyberGIS Symposia at AAG annual meetings since 2011. A suite of paper and panel sessions will address cutting-edge advances of cyberGIS and spatial data science with a particular focus placed on the following themes: foundations and frontiers of cyberGIS and spatial data science, data-driven geography, high-performance computing and data-intensive approaches to geographic problem solving, geographic knowledge discovery enabled by cyberGIS and spatial data science, education advances and challenges, and spatial cyberinfrastructure.
