The global challenge of managing water for a myriad of human and ecosystem needs requires innovative solutions. As these issues persist deep into this century, a new generation of water resource professionals and researchers will be called upon to address this challenge through innovative, adaptive and transformative thinking. This session is designed to encourage the development of the next generation of water resource geographers through presentations from students and early career professionals. Presentation topics will vary widely and can be in various stages of completion, including research proposal development and preliminary data analysis. Each presentation should at a minimum relate directly to the research and practice of members of the Water Resources Specialty Group (WRSG) of the AAG. The session is structured as 15-minute oral presentations with a 5-minute question and answer period. In addition, presenters will receive specific feedback from WRSG members to help them improve messaging and communication in their conference presentations. Student presenters in this session will also receive written comments on their abstracts from members of the WRSG prior to the AAG deadline for abstract changes (February 23rd, 2018) to extend mentorship in preparation for this session. We strongly encourage undergraduate, masters and doctoral candidates at any phase of their research process to apply; early career practitioners interested in communicating their work to academic audiences are also welcome. This session will foster a welcoming environment to hear from new and up-and-coming scholars in water resources geography. We highly encourage all students applying for WRSG student awards to participate in this session. Please note: No specific application is necessary. However, applicants must present their research at the Annual AAG Meeting in the WRSG-sponsored Student Paper Session(s) titled: "Untapped: Fresh Voices in Water Resources Geography" to be eligible for WRSG presentation awards.
