Urban sustainability requires a balance among socioeconomic development, regional ecosystem services and human wellbeing. From the global to local scales, urban landscape dynamics (e.g., urban expansion, urban sprawl, and gentrification), along with the concentration of population in urban areas, have caused some negative effects on environment and raised a series issues on urban sustainability, such as urban heat island, air and water pollution in urban areas, environmental risk, degradation of ecosystem services, and declines of human wellbeing. In this session, we encourage studies that will advance our understanding of urban landscape dynamics, urban ecosystem services, residents’ wellbeing and urban sustainability. The topics include but are not limited to:
1) Spatial heterogeneity, ecosystem services and human wellbeing within urban area
2) Urban landscape dynamics and its effects on ecosystem services, human wellbeing environmental risk, and regional sustainability;
3) Urban land model to track urban landscape dynamics and urban sustainability;
4) Indicators and methods to assess urban sustainability
5) Urban planning/design based on ecosystem conservation
We would like to welcome any papers that showcase recent advances and original contributions in these topics.
