Culture plays a key role in driving land use and land cover change and crafting effective policies, yet obstacles remain to incorporating culture into coupled human-natural systems research and explanatory frameworks. In this discussion panel, researchers working on social and cultural dimensions of LULC consider methodological and theoretical challenges to integrating culture more systematically into socio-ecological analysis and land system science.
