The focus of this paper is the travels of southern urban theory. Specifically, in my paper I will begin by reflecting on the salient contributions that scholars working on cities of the south have made to urban theory more broadly. Then I will trace the particular trajectories that southern urban theories have traversed as ideas and concepts in/from southern cities are being mobilized to understand all cities including cities from the north. I will conclude by raising some critical questions about the trajectories of traveling southern urban theory including asking critical questions about southern urban theory being predominantly deployed to understand the “third world” dimensions of northern cities.
