China has constructed both the largest highway system and the largest high-speed rail system in the world. Those two systems have made up a very efficient national high-speed transportation system. Until now, the impact of those two systems on the regional urban growth remains unclear. The aim of this research is to discuss (1) whether the construction of the national high-speed transportation system has promoted polarization of urban growth in each Megacity-region; and (2) what is the difference between the impacts of the highway system and the high-speed rail system.
