This paper takes Hainan Island as the research object, and uses two different coordination degree calculation methods to describe the coordinated development of urbanization and ecosystem services, which is called the coupling coordination model and coordination index. The latter requires at least two years of data to calculate, and can only reflect the changing situation instead of describing the situation of the year. The coupling coordination model is more practical by contrast. The study found that urbanization and ecosystem services was promoted represented by Haikou and Sanya in 2000-2010 on Hainan Island, as well as the comprehensive improvement of the coordinated development of the two systems. At the same time, with the influence of population, land and economic urbanization, culture services were also enhanced.
