This paper will investigate the intersection of security, scale and citizenship in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Our democratic anxieties are being mediated through popular culture with a focus around security and citizenship at different scales. In our liberal democracy we want checks and balances to protect us from our government and the government to protect us from each other. I will look at identity politics and special abilities and the ideas around keeping your populations safe versus respecting the rights of individuals in particular risk calculus Liberty in the fear of others. I will also look at the social contract the idea of I give up some liberties for protection and security and a fair system of laws.
