Trends in the American education system calls for relevant teaching that engages learners in authentic disciplinary knowledge and skills. In social studies, the National Council for the Social Studies (NCSS) College, Career, and Civic Life (C3) Framework delineates expectations for teachers to equip students to be active citizens who are prepared to make evidence-based claims that demonstrate their ability to analyze and to make informed decisions. This presentation aligns the new Powerful Geography framework to current expectations for social studies education and discusses how it can inform pre-service education at a national level.
