Destruction of pipeline infrastructure like wellheads can be dangerous and costly for pipeline operators. Poor vegetation management surrounding the wellheads is one of the main reasons issues occur. These issues could be easily avoided if the operator had a better understanding of the types of land cover surrounding their infrastructure. This project will attempt to accurately classify the land cover surrounding 422 wellheads in Western New York to offer a better understanding of the issues and hopefully allow the pipeline operator to easily address problems before they become major issues. This project will use the object-based feature extraction capabilities of GEOBIA to design a detailed land cover ruleset. The ruleset will integrate current multispectral imagery and LiDAR data into the workflow utilizing the spectral and elevation signatures in each of these datasets.
