Many teacher-training institutions do not have a Department of Geography. In fact, in South Carolina only one institution does. This poster highlights the efforts of the South Carolina Geographic Alliance to reach pre-service teachers at universities and colleges around the state with a very limited geography presence. An Education Program Manager creates and maintains partnerships with faculty at these institutions and conducts workshops to showcase geography content, pedagogy, and technology. Workshops have included geography for early childhood education, special education, and secondary social studies. The program fosters early relationships with those who would go on to identify as geography teachers, and works to break down curricular barriers to promote geography in all classrooms.
