Public transportation services in most cities are concentrated in the center and sub-centers due to lack of efficiency and planning strategies that identify most in need areas and prioritizing them. For cities in developing countries with limited funds to distribute resources equally and to stick within the available funds, using the existing modes efficiently can be taken as the best remedy for overcoming problems emerged from uneven distribution of public transportation services. For this purpose, it is important to identify the unprivileged and neglected areas by evaluating the current public transport supply based on measuring indexes that can show the spatial equity of the distribution of public transit modes. This research has assessed and measured public transportation equity using Transit Supply Index (TSI) and Gini coefficient for the measurement of accessibility and equity of distribution respectively for the city of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The results from the analysis demonstrated that the current public transportation of the city is not equitable distributed with a relatively high Gini coefficient of 0.47. In addition, the vertical equity analysis which has tested equity in public transportation accessibility by age group indicated that aged groups are enjoying a slightly higher share of the service compared with children, youths and adults that have lower access to public transportation supply.
