This study builds a climatology of the trade wind inversion (TWI) for the Caribbean and tropical North Atlantic using ERA5 reanalysis. ERA5 has 137 vertical levels, the highest vertical resolution of any reanalysis product, and allows for investigation of the TWI. Local and regional variability in the TWI is explored. Additionally, an epochal analysis is conducted to examine any changes in the strength and vertical structure of the TWI. Future work will examine drivers of changes in the TWI.
