Panelists will discuss Julie Cidell's new book Imagining Sustainability: Creative Urban Environmental Governance in Chicago and Melbourne (Routledge 2017). Cidell's book argues cities have become key sites for enacting environmental policies. It seeks to understand how actors in local government conceptualize sustainability and their role in producing it, and what difference that understanding makes to their physical, political, and social environments now and in the future. Panelists with wide-ranging expertise in urban sustainability and governance reflect on the book, the pressing issues it highlights, and strategies going forward.
