We consider the recommendations of the recent IPCC report “Climate Change and Land.” Applied climate science largely connects physical outcomes to available social proxies: population density and income per capita. We argue for deeper engagement with social systems, particularly a better understanding of how corporations (agribusiness and energy) shape social and environmental change.
