This presentation discusses Office of Management and Budget (OMB)-delineated metropolitan, micropolitan, and related statistical areas. It begins by examining key elements of the 2010 standards published by OMB to delineate statistical areas as well as noting relevant terminology related to the standards. The presentation then provides guidance on items such as ranking and titling of areas. The presentation offers examples of uses of metropolitan, micropolitan, and related statistical areas in data products released by the U.S. Census Bureau. Finally, OMB leads the review of the standards each decade; the review of the 2010 standards is currently under way.
