This study aims to improve the healthcare delivery system of Korea by analysis on spatial diffusion of medical services based on The National Health Insurance Sample Data Base of Korea. The diffusion of medical services varies according to the feature of medical services. The rate of new medical service adoption grows over time. General hospitals in the capital regions adopt new services more in early stages, but the adoption rate gap reduce for active adoption of new services in general hospitals in other regions. Examination services are used in all kinds of medical institutions and regions with service introduction. Treatment and cure services don't spread easily within the kind of medical institutions and are concentrated in few regions. The diffusion of rehabilitation services within medical institution types is observed and the institution types affect spatial diffusion of medical services. It shows that the type of medical institutions is critical in diffusion of medical services. By focusing medical services this study presents another chance for policy makers to reduce disparities of medical service provision in regions. With these findings this could contribute to build more effective healthcare delivery systems in Korea.
