By leveraging machine learning we sought to provide smallholder farmers in Africa with access to knowledge in hopes of increasing yields. We are developing Artificial Intelligence tools to help tackle some of the major challenges smallholder farmers face like pests and diseases. By using image recognition software we have developed an AI assistant that farmers can use to diagnose crop diseases and pests such as Fall Armyworm infections in Africa and Spotted Lanternfly in Pennsylvania. Currently, we are working on machine learning projects that utilize satellite imagery and evapotranspiration data to help smallholder farmers manage water resources. Through these projects, our goal is to provide off-line knowledge and extension services in hopes of helping smallholder farmers grow more food.
