The poster examines the trend of deforestation occurring in the state of Roraima, Brazil. With the increase in population there is a need for more and more agricultural land. This need is subsequently leading to deforestation. Apart from that, it can be said there are several other proximate causes and distal, or underlying ,factors that are working and leading to deforestation. To analyse the trend of deforestation two Landsat images (Landsat 8) for the year 2013 and 2018 were analyzed to reveal the increase in deforestation. The primary goal of this poster is to document deforestation in the state of Roraima. Spectral signatures of vegetation cover were taken and supervised classification was done to measure deforestation. NDVI (Normalized difference vegetation index) was also used to observe changes in vegetation health. This study clearly shows that there is an increase in deforestation from the year 2013 to 2018. Although there is a deforestation decrease in the years 2009 and 2010, deforestation increased again after 2013. This increase is alarming since wanton destruction of forest leads to climate change, flooding, reduce precipitation, desertification, increase greenhouse gases and create several other problems. So there should be some mitigation techniques to stop it.
