ABSTRACT
Arsenic contamination in groundwater & related health hazards are seriously concern in many countries of the world. A number of large aquifers in the world have been identified with problems of high arsenic concentration in groundwater. Arsenic contamination in groundwater in the Ganga- Brahmaputra fluvial plain of the Ganga river. Arsenic contamination in groundwater of West Bengal in the range of 0.001-0.062 mg/l, occurs in isolated patches. People in affected part of West Bengal have chemically been exposed to drinking arsenic contaminated hand tube wells water. Thus, an attempt has been made to understand the status of Arsenic from the part of South parganas of West Bengal. 16 groundwater samples were collected from the study area & are physio-chemically analyzed by ICPMS instrument. One sample exceeds the permissible limit. The interpretations of major ions with the statistical analysis were performed to understand the behavior of arsenic in groundwater.
