Call for Submissions

We welcome additional mentors to host a table for discussion.
We also welcome contact from potential attendees/participants to share their suggestions for topics about which they'd like mentoring.

This interactive session aims to support women in geography by continuing the work of the Women’s Mentoring Network. Feedback from mentoring sessions at previous AAG meetings reveals a strong desire among graduate students and early career geographers for career advice and support that they feel is missing from their individual institutions and departments. Members of the AAG’s Committee on the Status of Women in Geography will host a “speed” mentoring session in the format of a World Café discussion in which participants engage with up to six different mentors. Mentors will reflect on their own experiences and offer advice and guidance to attendees/mentees on a variety of topics. Topics include balancing family caregiving responsibilities, being a student/new faculty member from underrepresented groups (e.g. mature, international, and women of color), making the transition from contract to tenure security, coping with precarious employment, maintaining mental health, preparing for job interviews, making international links, establishing mentoring networks (especially beyond their department), and obtaining tenure.
