W0_1 Managing and Resolving Conflicts: A Workshop For Women in Geospatial

Type: Workshop
Sponsor Groups:
Organizers: The American Association of Geographers

Sunday, April 5, 1:00 PM – 3:50 PM
Organizers: Barbara Buttenfield; Laxmi Ramasubramanian
Capacity: 20
Cost/person: $10
Room: Capitol Ballroom 6

The workshop is intended for early-career academic women in the geo-spatial sciences. The workshop is designed to assist women in recognizing workplace conflicts before or as they arise, and distinguish between conflicts that are observed and those that are perceived. Participants will become self-aware about their own (default) approaches to engaging with conflicts and recognize how situations might escalate into conflict and how to mediate them. We will discuss basic skills for remaining civil and calm during difficult situations. The workshop will integrate full group discussions with small group activities built around scenarios.
