The global coronavirus pandemic caused unprecedented measures to be taken in the form of social and economic lockdowns across much of the US. This paper studies the subsequent impacts on retail purchasing behaviours at the onset of economic lockdowns in response to the COVID-19 outbreak. Using sales data from a major US retailer that provides essential goods, both online and offline consumption patterns will be studied in advance of and over the onset of the lockdown.
