This paper investigates the use of creative practices in urban regeneration, as policy strives to find new - and cost effective - mechanisms for dealing with persistent and seemingly intractable health challenges in deprived areas. Using Paisley in Scotland as a case study, the research analyses cross-sectoral policy approaches to seeking innovative ways of tackling the challenges that beset disadvantaged communities. Following an unsuccessful bid to the UK 2021 Capital of Culture, the city stives to build momentum, drawing on soft power networks establish in the bid to engage with communities, levering the arts in service of social, economic and environmental regeneration.
