Morgan State University, a Historically Black University located in Baltimore City, has made a commitment to the neighborhoods surrounding the campus, an area of approximately 12 square miles. A collaborative team consisting of members of the University Department of Economics, the Library GIS Hub, and the Office of Institutional Research began collecting baseline data on several metrics. Maps were generated for household income, high school proficiency test results, crime, and food deserts. The maps can be used to document the current community condition. As the University develops and expands collaborative initiatives with the community, updated maps will be generated and the baseline maps can be used to show change over time.
