The COVID-19 pandemic has affected countries all over the world and it has changed everyday life, posing enormous health, economic, environmental, and social challenges to the entire human population. As a response to this crisis, diverse geospatial applications have been developed for mapping the spread of the pandemic and analyzing the impact of it on the environment and society. Geospatial applications provide valuable insights to help the government’s stakeholders to monitor, manage, and make decisions during the different stages of fighting against the pandemic and post-pandemic recovery.
Currently, most geospatial mapping and analysis of COVID-19 outbreaks are at the Global, Country, or State levels. Only a few works focus on the impacts at the neighborhood levels (such as zip codes, sub-regional areas, census tracts, etc.) However, local communities play an essential role in tracing and intervening disease outbreaks and epidemiology research. The analysis and mapping of neighborhood-level impacts can help the City or County Public Health staff to make better decisions in terms of resource management and intervention methods.
Our organized paper session(s) will focus on the following themes but not limited to:
- Geovisualization of the COVID-19 pandemics in neighborhoods
- Geospatial web and mobile application services for local communities.
- Geospatial analysis of the impact of the pandemic and reopening communities/businesses at the County or City level.
- Analysis of location-based big data (e.g., mobile phone data, GPS data, and social media data) in the context of the COVID-19
pandemic in local communities.
- Privacy-preserving in mapping and data analysis for small-areas
