This session is intended for faculty members, professional geographers, and graduate students who engage in basic geographic and spatial scientific research and who wish to learn strategies and opportunities for preparing competitive proposals for research grants from the Human-Environment and Geographical Sciences (HEGS) Program and elsewhere at NSF. Program officers from the HEGS Program at NSF will highlight ways to improve the quality and competitiveness of a proposal. They also will discuss the review process, including intellectual merit and broader impacts. After a general presentation, more specific information will be provided on Faculty Early-Career Development (CAREER) proposals as well as the Doctoral Dissertation Improvement (DDRI) program. Additionally, Program Officers from HEGS will discuss other opportunities for geographers at NSF. Ample time will be allotted for Questions and Answers.
