We invite you to workshop with the editorial team for Digital Geography & Society thinking space for digital geographies. As practitioners of a ‘spatial science’ geographers frequently espouse forms of ‘spatial’ theory. Yet the ambiguities of mediation through technologies produces enduring disagreements over the nature of that mediation. Prominent geographical theorists have asserted a relational nature of space. However, binaries of ‘real’/’online’ remain common currency in the study of (the) ‘digital’. There is a sense in which geographers concerned with ‘digital’ continue to both worry and worry about the nature of ‘reality’. Rather than asserting a ‘correct’ form of theory, invite you to join us to collectively tease out productive ways to theorise: what/which ‘digital’(s)? for whose ‘geographies’? The aim for this participatory workshop session is to think together about what it means to ‘do theories’ of space for digital geographies.
